SUN, SURF AND SAND ON MAGNIFICENT BEACHES

Day 1
The small town of Malindi is at the centre of a strip of idyllic tropical beaches offering the visitor a range of world class resorts and quiet relaxing hideaways. Further south, the sleepy village of Watamu is fronted by wide white beaches. This tranquil haven is the first stop in your safari to Watamu.

Day 2 to 6
At Watamu a Marine National Park has been established, an ideal day trip for divers and snorkellers alike. Northwest of Malindi is the spectacular Marafa Depression, locally known as Nyari and popularly known as Hell's Kitchen. An extensive series of sandstone gorges and sheer gullies, this unique and otherworldly landscape has become part of local folklore. The thick jungles of the Arabuko Sokoke Forest reserve hide a world of wonders. In the cool of the forest winding paths will take you in search of rare endemic birds and mammals, and visiting herds of Elephant.

The forest holds another secret, the lost town of Gedi, a deserted trading Swahili town hidden deep in the forests, whose winding passages and crumbling walls tell of a long and mysterious past.

Day 7
Depart from Watamu to Mombasa or Nairobi to connect your homebound flight.

WATAMU AND GEDE
Gede villages are located on the seaward side off the main Malindi Road and short distance before Watamu houses Kenya’s mot important monument the GEDE or GEDI ruins about 20 kilometres south of Malindi town – an Islamic civilization city which disappeared mysteriously about three hundred years ago. The ruins were gazetted as a National Museum (45 acres) in 1948.

The great city mosque and parts of the king’s palace and other city houses have been restored, well-preserved and signposted with the well maintained trails for the benefit and enjoyment of the visitors. The ruins are surrounded by coastal forest where interestingly mammals and birds are seen.

Some of the common mammals and birds are yellow baboons, blue monkeys, suni, brown headed parrot trumpeter, green pigeon, fischers, turacco, brown-headed, hornbill and many others.

From Gede Village one travels for about 8 kilometres about to Watamu Village beyond which is the Watamu Marina National Park established in 1968 for the preservation of the coral reef resources.
